NEW DELHI, May 26 (UPI) -- An Indian government crackdown closed bank accounts of non-governmental organizations, including that of Greenpeace India.
The environmental group was among 8,975 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) losing access to funding. After a court challenge by Greenpeace, the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Delhi High Court Tuesday that Greenpeace violated the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act, citing financial irregularities.
