Spanish Parliament passes law on political party accounts

MADRID, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The Spanish Parliament passed a law that will require all political parties to make their financial transactions public and restrict donations.

The law mandates that political parties upload all financial transactions to their websites and submit them to the Accounts Tribunal, ThinkSpain reported.

If a party receives a donation, it must be refunded or handed over to the official treasury fund for the scrutiny of the Accounts Courts.

The goal of the law is to "introduce greater control, transparency and prevention of tax evasion," said the People's Party.
