Man who set self afire in piazza dies

ROME, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A man who set himself on fire in Rome's Piazza Montecitorio died of injures he suffered during the incident, officials said.

Angelo Di Carlo, 54, suffered second and third-degree burns after he doused himself in a flammable liquid and set himself ablaze on August 11, Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reported.

After setting himself on fire, Carlo made a run for the entrance of the Chamber of Deputies, but was stopped by Carabinieri officers who blasted him with fire extinguishers.

He was then hospitalized, but died Saturday night from severe burns that covered 85 percent of his body, the report said.

Carlo was a widower and had lost his job shortly before the incident, the report said.
