Thailand car bombs linked to militants

YALA, Thailand, April 1 (UPI) -- Thailand's prime minister said police had linked Saturday's two car bombings to an insurgent group.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told reporters Sunday the specific group had been identified, but the name would not be released in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

"We have clues to who the bombers are, but details could not be released," she said. "I want (police) work on this comfortably."

Two blasts in Songkhla and Yala caused 13 deaths and injured more than 400 people. The Thai news agency MCOT said the death toll had earlier been reported at 15 but was revised downward.

The Yala explosion rocked the underground garage at the upscale Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel, killing a Malaysian tourist and two others. Guests were moved to another hotel, MCOT said.

The bombing in Songkhla occurred a few hours earlier at a shopping mall.
