CAIRO, June 28 (UPI) -- Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak, hospitalized at the resort city of Sharm el-Sheik since April, will be examined by European doctors, officials said.

Health Minister Ashraf Hatem said Markus Wolfgang Buchler, a German doctor who performed surgery on Mubarak in Germany last year, is expected to examine the ex-president, al-Masry al-Youm reported Tuesday.

Buchler, who has been in Cairo since June 22, is examining other patients at a private hospital in Nasr City, Hatem said.

Earlier this month the ousted president's lawyer, Farid al-Deep, said Mubarak may have stomach cancer.

Mubarak is in state custody while Egyptian prosecutors investigate charges of financial corruption and allegations he had protesters killed during the January revolution that ended his 30-year presidency.
