CAIRO, June 2 (UPI) -- Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, go on trial in August on a variety of charges, officials said.
The charges include allegations of killing of anti-government protesters, the illegal acquisition of wealth and the selling of Egyptian natural gas to Israel at extremely low rates, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
The trial is set to start Aug. 3 in Cairo. Businessman Hussein Salem faces similar charges and will be tried at the same time, the report said.
Attorney-General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud said the group squandered state funds, illegally gained financial benefits for themselves and others, and were complicit in the low-priced gas deals with Israel.
Mahmoud said Mubarak, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, and some senior police officers conspired to kill peaceful protesters during the revolution that led to Mubarak's resignation.
Mahmoud said Mubarak and Adly incited police to fire live ammunition at protesters, and ordered them to run demonstrators over with government vehicles.
Mubarak also allegedly allowed Salem to seize hundreds of thousands of acres of state-owned land in the most prestigious tourist areas of Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort city on the Red Sea.
