Russia: Latest blast not a terrorist act

"A grenade has exploded, maybe as a result of reckless negligence," said Soslan Sikoev, deputy head of North Ossetia's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

No one was injured in Saturday's explosion in the residential neighborhood. The vehicle belonged to a man serving in the Russian military, but an investigation is under way.

However, the incident follows a series of terrorist attacks in recent weeks, the report said.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in a car outside a market in in Vladikavkaz Thursday, killing 17 and injuring more than 100, Itar-Tass reported.

Eleven of the injured, including a 3-year-old child, have been airlifted to Moscow for treatment. They were accompanied by 16 doctors; five of the victims, including the child, were in grave condition, the report said.
