2020 G7 summit will be held at Camp David, Trump says

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The next Group of Seven economic summit -- hosted by the United States -- will be staged at the presidential retreat at Camp David, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.

At the NATO summit in London, Trump said the June 2020 meetings will be held at the Maryland retreat located 60 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., that's named for the son of former President Dwight Eisenhower.

Camp David is Trump's second choice for the event, after plans fell through in October to host leaders from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the European Union at his golf resort near Miami -- a site that drew considerable criticism.

"It will be at Camp David, which is a place that people like," Trump told reporters. "It's nearby, its close. We're going to give really great access to the press."

Trump floated the idea of Camp David in October when he announced his Florida resort would no longer stage the summit.

Trump recently held a 10th anniversary party for daughter Ivanka Trump and White House adviser Jared Kushner at Camp David.
