Peter Kassig's mother reaches out to ISIS on Twitter

Paula Kassig asks for Islamic State leader to get in touch with her on Twitter, says government is no help.

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Paula Kassig, the mother of Peter Kassig, an American aid worker being held hostage by the Islamic State, appealed to his captors using Twitter on Wednesday.

Peter Kassig, who changed his name to Abdul-Rahman after converting to Islam, was kidnapped by IS — also known by the acronyms ISIS and ISIL — in 2013 while he was in Syria as a medical worker.

His mother took to Twitter on Wednesday, addressing a message to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed leader of IS.

"I am trying to get in touch with the Islamic State about my son's fate," Paula Kassig writes. "I am an old woman, and Abdul Rahman is my only child. My husband and I are on our own, with no help from the government. We would like to talk to you. How can we reach you?"

She then reposted the same message several times, tagging Twitter handles suspected of having a connection to IS.

This isn't the first time Peter Kassig's parents have directly reached out to IS since their son was mentioned at the end of a video depicting the beheading of Briton Alan Henning.

The Kassigs issued a YouTube video plea asking for the release of their son Saturday.
