WAKE ISLAND, Hawaii, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Search and rescue teams were still looking for a pilot who went missing Thursday after two F/A-18 Hornet jets crashed into the western Pacific Ocean.

The jets were operating off the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier when they crashed.

"Initial reports indicate the two jets collided," a Navy official, whose name wasn't reported, told CNN.

One pilot was rescued and treated on board the aircraft carrier. He was listed in fair condition. The second pilot was still being searched for as of late Friday.

The Navy deployed a cruiser, a destroyer and helicopters to aid in the search.

Neither of the two aircrafts were recovered.

The crash happened about 290 miles west of Wake Island.
