ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Rochester, N.Y. developer Larry Glazer and his wife, Jane, were identified as the victims when a small plane crashed off Jamaica Friday.

The Glazers took off from Greater Rochester International Airport Friday morning, bound for Naples, Fla., where they were planning to spend the weekend.

Their Socata TMB-700 went down after flying unresponsive for several hours, flying past Florida and into Cuban airspace. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) scrambled a pair of F-15s that began escorting the plane around 11:30 a.m., and the airmen were able to see the Socata pilot slumped in the cockpit before the windows frosted over.

Eventually, after traveling some 1,700 miles, the plane ran out of fuel. According to Maj. Basil Jarret of the Jamaican Defense Force, the plane went down about 14 miles off the northern coast of Jamaica, near the town of Port Antonio. He said two aircraft and a dive team had been sent to investigate.

Ken Glazer, a family member, confirmed Larry and Jane Glazer were aboard the plane.

Glazer's Buckingham Properties owns or manages 13 million square feet of property in Rochester, and had plans to develop much of the Midtown area.

"He is precious in 100 ways," Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, the president of the Rochester Downtown Development Corp, told the Democrat and Chronicle. "He is one of a kind... This is a nightmare."

Glazer's profile on the Buckingham website included a nod toward his love of flying.

"Larry spends some of his spare time on the ground -- gardening around his house with his wife, Jane; and some in the sky -- flying his plane," it said.

Glazer was president of the TBM Owners and Pilots Association. His plane, with tail number N900KN, was a new 2014 model.
