CLINTON, Ind., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- More than 100 residents of an assisted living facility in Indiana were evacuated after the building's roof partially collapsed, sheriff's officials said.
The Vermillion County Sheriff's Office said there were no injuries Thursday evening when the roof caved-in, allowing water to fall into the facility's living areas.
Officials said heavy rains and construction work being done on the roof most likely contributed to its collapse.
Residents were initially evacuated to a nearby church, and five were taken to Union Hospital of Clinton because of medical conditions that needed to be actively monitored, the sheriff's office said.
The American Red Cross set up a temporary shelter for the residents at Hillcrest Community Center in Clinton, Ind., The Tribune-Star of Terre Haute, Ind., reported.
Responding agencies were "doing everything they can possibly do to assure the safety of the residents," said Vermillion County Sheriff Robert Spence.
