HOUSTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The Houston Chronicle, which endorsed the primary election of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in 2012, said in an editorial Wednesday it regrets its endorsement.

The editorial board added it missed his predecessor, former Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, saying, "Cruz has been part of the problem in specific situations (in the Senate) where Hutchinson would have been part of the solution."

Cruz, 42, has encouraged colleagues to resist funding the government unless the Affordable Care Act is rolled back, angering Republicans as well as Democrats, ABC News noted.

Referring to Hutchinson, the editorial mentioned "her extraordinary understanding of the importance of reaching across the aisle when necessary. Neither sitting Texas senator (Cruz or Republican John Cornyn) has displayed that useful skill, and both the state and the Congress are poorer for it."
