Clinton back on the job after fall

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton thanked staff in her first public remarks since returning from a hospital stay.

Clinton returned to Foggy Bottom after spending three days in a New York City hospital for a blood clot between her brain and skull. Clinton had the flu and was dehydrated when she fell and hit her head, leading to a concussion. She then formed the blood clot and had to be hospitalized, her doctors said.

She has since recovered, CNN reported. She was back on the job Monday and made her first public appearance Wednesday. She has said she will remain on the job until her replacement, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., is confirmed by the Senate later this year.

"I am thrilled to be back, and I am also incredibly grateful to this fabulous team that I have here at the State Department, who never missed a beat for the time that I was away," Clinton said.
