Army orders L-Band radio kits

MELBOURNE, Fla., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has ordered accessory kits for its Harris Corp. Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multi-band manpack radios.

The kits will allow use of the radios' embedded L-Band capabilities in support of the Army's next-generation battlefield networking needs, Harris said.

"These kits will enable the U.S. forces to extend in-vehicle voice and data communications in the L-Band range,'' said George Helm, president, Department of Defense Business, Harris RF Communications. "Harris is focused on addressing both current and emerging requirements for improved battlefield communications.''

Harris said the order for the accessory kits is worth $6 million but the company gave no specifics on the kits involved, the number ordered or a delivery schedule.

The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G is the world's most widely fielded tactical wideband networking radio, Harris said, and connects warfighters to the tactical Internet.

In recent weeks, Harris has reported a steady stream of military and government contracts for its Falcon III and Falcon II radio systems. Among those placing the orders were the U.S. military and military and government agencies in unidentified Latin American countries.
