Harris supplying military radios to Brazil

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Brazil is boosting the communications capability of its military through the use of Falcon III radio systems from Harris Corp. of the United States.

Harris said the order received from Brazil's Center for Communications and Electronic Warfare is for RF-7800V radios for use in vehicles and 7800S wideband networking systems.

The order is worth $10.7 million.

"The RF-7800V and RF-7800S will provide Brazil's army with secure voice and high-bandwidth data applications such as video combat chat," said Julio Villafane, regional managing director, Caribbean and Latin America Region, Harris RF Communications. "Both radios enable end-to-end solutions that address requirements for real-time, mission-critical information on the battlefield."

The RF-7800V covers the 30-108 MHz frequency range. It features simultaneous data and voice communications and data transfer rates of 192 Kbps. The RF-7800S for soldier carry has a data rate of 256 Kbps and has a range of more than 1 mile.

The exact number of units ordered and their delivery schedule were not disclosed.
