Human remains may belong to missing teen

BIG SPRING, Texas, March 21 (UPI) -- Human remains have been discovered in a West Texas pasture some 40 miles from where 13-year-old cheerleader Hailey Dunn disappeared, authorities said.

Detective Sgt. Tony Everett of the Big Spring police department told the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News the remains appeared to have been there "for a long period of time."

The gender or age of the victim could not be immediately determined, the newspaper said Tuesday.

An FBI evidence recovery team from the Dallas office was dispatched to the scene.

The pasture where the remains were found is about a mile from the home of the mother of Shawn Adkins, the last person to see the teenager before she disappeared in December 2010, ABC News reported.

Adkins, the live-in boyfriend of Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn, was named as a person of interest in the 13-year-old's disappearance.

Both Billie Dunn and Adkins failed polygraph exams during the initial investigation of Hailey's disappearance.
