Boy, 7, dies after fall from ski lift

NORDEN, Calif., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A 7-year-old boy who fell 60 feet from a chairlift at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort in California died of his injuries, officials said.

John Henderson of Davis was riding the Mount Lincoln chairlift with two fellow members of the Sugar Bowl Ski Team Sunday when he fell to the ground below, which was only partially covered with snow, KXTV, Sacramento, reported Wednesday.

Henderson, who was wearing a helmet, was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he underwent surgery. He died of his injuries Tuesday.

"A fall from 60 feet is lethal whether it was in good conditions or bad conditions. Most people don't survive that kind of fall," ski patrol member John Margolis told the TV station.

Some ski resorts have installed magnets that hold children against the back of the chair until they reach the unloading area.
