Texas teens allegedly tie dogs to tracks

HALTOM CITY, Texas, June 28 (UPI) -- A group of Texas teenagers Tuesday allegedly tied two dogs to railroad tracks near a church and watched as a train ran over and killed them, police said.

Haltom City police Cpl. Joe Hackfeld said, "Two other loose dogs were found in the area and we don't know if the kids had brought them along or if they were just strays," the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Police said a witness reported he saw boys tying up the dogs, and a few minutes later, a train hit the dogs.

A woman at the nearby church said that church officials called police about the loose dogs on the church's property.

"We're still trying to find out how many kids were involved," said Hackfeld.

There were no teens in the area when officers arrived at the scene, the newspaper said.

Police are investigating the cruelty-to-animals case.
