WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are off the air -- except when they make news -- until they decide on U.S. presidential runs, Fox News said Wednesday.

The suspensions are for 60 days, anchor Bret Baier said in the public announcement, Politico reported.

Diane Brandi, Fox vice president of legal and business affairs, told the Los Angeles Times the network decided to suspend former House speaker Gingrich and former U.S. Sen. Santorum, R-Pa., because both are giving out strong signals they have decided to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012, although they have not made formal announcements. Three other Fox News contributors -- former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton -- are believed to be considering runs as well.

Sources told Politico Gingrich has postponed making an announcement because his staff has to figure out how his various sources of income -- including Fox News and his think tank, American Solutions for Winning the Future -- mesh with campaign finance and tax laws.

"If he utters a word now that smacks of being a presidential candidate, he's got a problem," a lawyer specializing in campaign finance told Politico.
