CHICAGO, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Attorneys for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich filed a motion overnight to bar any wiretap recordings from being used during his retrial in April.
His attorneys said in the filing that the recordings that form the core of the government's case lack context and have gaps that could mislead the jurors, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported.
The defense wants hundreds of recordings thrown out, including one that may incriminate Blagojevich in an attempt to sell President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat, WLS-TV, Chicago, said.
"There is a pattern of inconsistent recordings, and the federal agents say they are required to only record parts of the conversations which relate to the investigation," the six-page filing said.
Blagojevich faces a retrial on 23 charges of corruption. He was found guilty on one charge last year. The retrial is scheduled for April 20.
