Poll: Obama ties his previous low rating

UTICA, N.Y., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Poll results released Tuesday indicate President Barack Obama's approval ratings have dropped to 39 percent, tying his previous low since becoming president.

Obama's overall approval rating was also 39 percent on Nov. 22, Zogby International of Utica, N.Y., said.

Zogby reported its interactive poll of 1,914 likely voters conducted Dec. 8-10 showed 63 percent said Obama is a weak leader and 68 percent said the country is heading in the wrong direction.

The poll showed a drop in Obama's approval rating by 9 percentage points among Democrats, from 82 percent to 73 percent. His approval also slipped among independents, from 39 percent to 36 percent. Only 7 percent of Republicans approve of Obama.

"It was a bad week for Obama's relationship with his party's base, which sees him giving in too easily to the Republicans," pollster John Zogby said. Sixty percent of liberals said Obama has been too quick to cave to Republicans.
