NEW YORK, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful Republican Sen. John McCain and Democrat Sen. Hillary Clinton are leading in New York, a poll indicates.
McCain has a slim lead over former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the Empire State, 24 percent to 21 percent, according to a Zogby New York Poll released Tuesday.
Trailing in third was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, with 14 percent support among likely primary voters.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had 7 percent support, as did former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who Tuesday exited the presidential race. Texas Rep. Ron Paul had 2 percent support.
Among Democrats, Clinton had a wide lead over her closest rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. Clinton had 47 percent support compared to Obama's 25 percent.
Trailing in third was former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with nine percent. About 14 percent of respondents said they were undecided on the race.
The Republican sample included 280 likely GOP voters. The survey was conducted Jan. 19–20, 2008, and carries a margin of error of +/– 6.0 percentage points.
The Democratic sample included 425 likely Democratic primary voters, and was conducted Jan. 19–20, 2008. It carries a margin of error of +/– 4.9 percentage points.
