Israelis protest peace plan

JERUSALEM, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Rabbis, Jewish leaders and Israeli lawmakers protested in Jerusalem plans for an Israeli-Palestinian peace summit in Annapolis, Md.

They were accompanied by a crowd of thousands who carried signs agreeing with the leaders that discussions being held between U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Quartet Mideast envoy Tony Blair, who represents the European Union, the United Nations the United States and Russia, IsraelNationalNews.com reported Monday.

"Ehud (Olmert), Ehud (Barak), and Tzipi (Livni) are deceiving an entire people and leading all of us to the Annapolis trap while ignoring the facts on the ground,” Likud lawmaker Yuval Steinitz said.

He said plans to divide Jerusalem between Israel and the Palestinians "would bring bloody riots in the Old City in place of peace."

The protesters also spoke against returning Israel to its pre-1967 borders, saying it would leave the country open to attack.
