LAS VEGAS, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Former NFL running back and actor O.J. Simpson has been charged with robbery, assault, burglary and conspiracy, Las Vegas police said Sunday.
Simpson was arrested at a Las Vegas hotel where he was staying for a friend's wedding.
He was arrested Sunday in connection with the theft of sports memorabilia from the Palace Station in Las Vegas last week. The arrest came one day after Las Vegas police arrested Walter Alexander, whom they suspect helped Simpson rob two sports memorabilia dealers, a source earlier told CNN.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday that memorabilia dealers Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong had told police Simpson and several other men robbed them at gunpoint Thursday, taking more than $75,000 worth of sports memorabilia.
Simpson, 60, denied guns were involved when he entered Beardsley's hotel room. He claimed he was there to retrieve personal items, such as photographs of himself as a child and photographs and negatives taken by his slain ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson.
Simpson was acquitted in a criminal trial for the slaying of his ex-wife and her friend, Ron Goldman. However, he was found liable for their deaths in a subsequent civil trial.
