Israel gives PA settlements maps

TEL AVIV, Israel, June 16 (UPI) -- Israel has reportedly provided the Palestinian Authority with detailed maps of the civilian infrastructure in areas it is to evacuate in August.

The Haaretz newspaper's Web site, quoting unnamed defense sources, said Thursday the maps detailed roads, electricity grids, water lines and other information.

The Palestinians had complained they could not plan for the takeover without maps, and last week Palestinian Civil Affairs Minister Mohammad Dahlan told the Foreign Press Association in Ramallah he had rejected maps originally offered.

The rejected maps included a copy of a map that Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin had signed with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat almost a decade ago and other information that one could find on the Internet and in libraries, Dahlan said.
