TBILISI, Georgia, April 29 (UPI) -- Georgia is not going to use its army as a tool for resolving regional conflicts, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Friday.
The Georgian leader, who has angered Russia by his determination to bring his remote former Soviet republic in the Caucasus closer to NATO and the West, was speaking at the Orfolo training ground in the Akhaltsikhe district, following artillery exercises, Interfax news agency said.
"Georgia is not going to use its armed forces as its main argument, and it will never start military actions first. Our main weapon is unity, consolidation, wise politics and cautiousness," Saakashvili said.
A peaceful settlement of conflicts should be the main goal, Saakashvili said. However, "all potential enemies should know that Georgia has an army," he said.
