Events to mark Oklahoma City anniversary

OKLAHOMA CITY, April 18 (UPI) -- A sequence of lectures, guided tours and other events are planned to mark the 10th anniversary this week of the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing.

Oklahoma native and Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Shadid hosted a media luncheon Monday and NBC anchor Brian Williams was to speak Monday evening at the downtown Bank One lobby, the Oklahoman reported.

Ceremonies Tuesday, the 10th anniversary of the April 19, 1995, bombing, will begin at the First United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City with a ceremony expected to be attended by former President Bill Clinton and U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Following that ceremony, families, survivors and rescue workers will hold a reunion and lunch at the Coca-Cola Events Center and the Oklahoma City National Memorial's newest exhibit, "Changed Forever -- Forever Changing," will open.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel is to speak Wednesday at Oklahoma City University's Freede Center, and Oklahoma-native musical performers, including Vince Gill and Toby Keith, are to perform at the Ford Center April 22 in a sold-out benefit concert for the museum.

In April 1995, Timothy McVeigh parked a rented truck filled with explosives in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The massive explosion demolished the entire north side of the building, killing 168 people.
