Martha Stewart to surrender by Oct. 8

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A federal judge Tuesday granted Martha Stewart's request to get her prison term over with by the spring planting season, ordering her to surrender by Oct. 8.

Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum in New York also granted Stewart's request to be assigned to a prison camp in Danbury, Conn., or Coleman, Fla., CNN/Money reported. The final decision, however, will be up to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Stewart last week asked to begin serving her five-month term even though her March conviction for lying about a stock sale is still under appeal.

Stewart told the court she was anxious to "put this nightmare behind me and get on with my life."

Stewart was sentenced to five months in prison and five months house arrest for obstructing justice and lying to investigators during an insider trading probe into the sale of her ImClone stock.
