Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon winner, sustained a "severe" left hand injury from a knife during a home invasion at her Prostejov, Czech Republic home on Tuesday morning.

Kvitova, a 26-year-old left-hander, said she is "shaken" and "fortunate to be alive."

A Prostejov police spokesperson said the attacker is a roughly 35-year-old man who fled the scene and remains at large.

"In my attempt to defend myself, I was badly injured on my left hand. I am shaken, but fortunate to be alive," Kvitova wrote on her Twitter account.

"The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists, but if you know anything about me I am strong and I will fight this. Thank you all for your love and support."

Kvitova, currently ranked 11th in the WTA singles rankings, won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. She owns a 425-190 career record with 19 Women's Tennis Association titles and seven International Tennis Federation victories.

She won the 2011 WTA Tour singles championship and advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Australian and French Opens, as well as the 2015 U.S. Open quarterfinals.
