Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend nets screamer vs. Manchester City

Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Andros Townsend scored one fo the best Premier League goals of the season during Crystal Palace's 3-2 win against Manchester City on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.

The score came in the 35th minute of the clash in Manchester England.

Ilkay Gundogan began the scoring with a goal in the 27th minute for the Sky Blues. Jeffrey Schlupp hit the equalizer in the 33rd minute for Palace before Townsend gave the road squad the lead two minutes later.

The ball bounced around in the City box during the play before being headed out toward Townsend. The midfielder eyed the ball as it fell toward the pitch but used his left boot to smash a 30 yard volley.

The shot curved outside before bending back in toward the right post and sneaking in past City keeper Ederson.

Palace held the 2-1 lead through halftime before Luka Millivojevic made a penalty kick in the 51st minute for a 3-1 edge.

Kevin De Bruyne closed the gap to one goal with a score in the 85th minute for the Sky Blues, but that would be the final tally of the match.

City faces Leicester City at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at King Power Stadium in Leicester, England. Palace battles Cardiff City at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Selhurst Park in London.
