Seattle Seahawks fire offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell; Steve Sarkisian rumored to step in

The Seattle Seahawks have fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell after seven seasons with the team, multiple outlets reported.

The Seahawks, however, have not officially announced the move as of Wednesday morning.

Seattle's offense was unable to find consistency this season despite Russell Wilson leading the league in touchdown passes with 34. The Seahawks finished 15th in total offense (330.4 yards per game) and 11th in scoring (22.9 points) this season, but struggled to move the ball in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and a Week 16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Seahawks, who were also 23rd in rushing (101.8), ended up with a 9-7 mark and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

They managed just one rushing touchdown from a running back all season and Wilson finished as the team's leading rusher. The 240 rushing yards by Mike Davis was the second-least by a leading running back in franchise history, behind only Sherman Smith's 202 yards in 1982.

Bevell's popularity with the Seahawks fans declined after the team lost Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots on an interception at the goal line.

The 48-year-old Bevell served as an offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings for five seasons before venturing to the Pacific Northwest in 2011. Bevell guided the Seahawks to five straight playoff appearances and two trips to the Super Bowl.

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is a rumored potential candidate to replace Bevell. The former Washington and USC coach worked with current Seattle coach Pete Carroll with the Trojans.
