New York Giants to interview New England Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, DC Matt Patricia

The New York Giants submitted requests to interview New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia for the team's head-coaching position, multiple outlets reported Monday.

The team also submitted a request for Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who has a connection to Dave Gettleman. Gettleman, who was the Panthers general manager from 2013-16, was hired to the same post for the Giants on Thursday.

With the Patriots on a bye before their playoff game, the Giants are expected to travel to Foxborough, Mass., to interview McDaniels and Patricia.

The Giants fired Ben McAdoo as their coach and general manager Jerry Reese on Dec. 4 and finished 3-13 this season. They will pick second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

McDaniels was fired during his second season as head coach with the Denver Broncos, with whom he posted an 11-17 mark during the 2009-10 seasons. The 41-year-old is in his 14th overall season with the Patriots.

McDaniels was asked on Monday how he will balance requests by teams seeking permission for interviews with preparing for the Patriots' next opponent.

"Yeah, I mean, that process -- whatever it is -- it will take place. I mean, I'm certainly not aware of anything at this point," McDaniels said. "I've just been focused on trying to grade our tape and work with our staff to try to get ourselves ready to have a productive week here with our guys and get ready to go.

"All of that stuff, you know, usually takes care of itself. There's a time and a place for all of that, and I've gone through it before, which is helpful in terms of being able to balance that and multitask it."

Patricia, 43, is in his sixth year as the Patriots' defensive coordinator and has been with the team since 2004.

Patricia was asked Monday about his expectations for this week and if he was planning to interview with any of these teams that are making coaching changes.

"Yeah, I mean I have no idea about any of that. None of that is even really applicable for me right now because I don't have any information on that," Patricia said.
