Pittsburgh Steelers' JuJu Smith-Schuster explains odd Christmas TD celebration

Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster is already an ace at touchdown celebrations. The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver unveiled a special one on Christmas.

But he didn't get to show it off until the third quarter.

The Steelers pass-catcher pulled it off after Le'Veon Bell's 10-yard touchdown run with 1:53 remaining in the quarter.

Immediately after Bell crossed the goal line, Smith-Schuster called teammates over near the field goal post. The rookie pretended to hide behind the post, before throwing an invisible snowball at his teammates. They fell on the turf, one-by-one.

Smith-Schuster then went full extension to throw another snowball.

The sequence was an attempt to mimic the famous Central Park snowball fight scene from the movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell.

Smith-Schuster clarified his inspiration with a tweet on Monday night.

"RT if you knew what my celebration was," he said.

Smith-Schuster had a game-high 75 yards and a score on six catches in the Steelers' 34-6 victory. He now has six touchdown catches on the season.

Smith-Schuster caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger with 9:31 remaining in the game. After that fourth quarter grab, he sat in front of the field goal post and pretended the ball was a present he was opening.

Earlier in the week, Smith-Schuster sported Christmas-themed cleats at practice. Those red shoes featured little bells and an upper similar to Santa Claus' hat.

"Great Christmas present," Smith-Schuster told reporters after the game. "The reason why I say that is because for me I don't have no family in Pittsburgh. So there ain't no better day to spend Christmas with my teammates, the coaches, the people you are around 24/7."
