July 3 (UPI) -- Last month, Matt Jones' agent asked for his release from the Washington Redskins. Now the running back has hired a new agent.

Super agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted a photo Sunday, featuring Jones. The caption for the photo read: "Welcome to the RSR family @mattjonesrb."

The Redskins were reportedly trying to trade Jones in April, before the 2017 NFL Draft. Jones was a healthy scratch for eight straight games in 2016, but is signed through 2018. The third round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has eight fumbles in his 20 career appearances.

Jones, 24, 794 yards from scrimmage and four scores during his rookie year in 2015. He had 440 rushing yards and three scores last season.

Hadley Englehard previously represented Jones.

The Redskins drafted Samaje Perine in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Jones reported in June to the Redskins' mandatory minicamp, but did not participate in any voluntary workouts.

Redskins running back coach Randy Jordan said it's up to Jones to determine where his career goes from this point.

"The change was made [Jones' benching]," Jordan told the Washington Post in June. "That being said, it's all about how you handle it. Do you say, 'OK, let me fix what I need to get fixed?' and come with an 'I'll-show-you' kind of attitude?' Or is it, 'Let me put myself under the shell, like a turtle' and 'Woe-is-me'-type situation?"

Second-year back Rob Kelley is expected to open the season as the team's starter, unless Perine unseats him with a strong training camp and preseason.
