CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera cleared up the murkiness surrounding the team's backfield Friday.

Rivera named second-year running back Cameron Artis-Payne the starter for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Two things still make Artis-Payne a risky start for your fantasy football team. The first is that Rivera also said that Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will see a nearly equal workload. The second factor will be the Panthers' tough defensive opponent. The Vikings have yet to allow a score on the ground to running backs this season.

Artis-Payne has been a healthy scratch so far this season, as he has a similar skillset to injured running back Jonathan Stewart. I think he is only worth starting in deeper leagues.

The former Auburn star is accepting his new role with confidence.

"Oh, my confidence is through the roof," Artis-Payne told Panthers.com. "We're just going to see what happens."
