Cy Young winner Corey Kluber to retire after 13 seasons

Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Longtime Cleveland Guardians pitcher Corey Kluber, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, will retire from MLB after 13 seasons, he announced Friday on Instagram.

"I am deeply grateful for the support of numerous individuals and entitles that profoundly influenced my path," Kluber wrote.

Kluber, 37, was 3-6 with a 7.04 ERA over 15 appearances last season for the Boston Red Sox. He went 116-77 with a 3.44 ERA over 271 career appearances.

Kluber made his MLB debut in 2011 for the Cleveland Indians and spent nine seasons with the franchise. Kluber also spent time with the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

"Each chapter was filled with priceless experiences, phenomenal teammates, and the backing of devoted fans, whose steadfast support always moved me to be the very best I could every time I toed the rubber," Kluber wrote.

The right-handed pitcher went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA over 34 starts en route to his first Cy Young Award in 2014. The three-time All-Star was 18-4 with an MLB-best 2.25 ERA over 29 starts to earn the honor for a second time in 2017.

Kluber logged 1,725 strikeouts over his 13 seasons. He totaled more than 200 strikeouts in five different seasons.
