Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expects pitcher Trever Bauer's absence to continue

July 6 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expects pitcher Trever Bauer to be out beyond the seven-day period associated with his recent placement on administrative leave due to an investigation into sexual assault claims.

Roberts made the comments when he spoke to reporters Monday in Miami. MLB placed the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner on leave Friday. Bauer has denied the allegations, which were made by a woman earlier this year.

The woman was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Bauer last week, with a hearing scheduled July 23 in Los Angeles.

Criminal charges have not been filed against the pitcher.

Bauer was scheduled to pitch Sunday, but was pulled from the appearance due to his placement on leave. He led MLB with 137 strikeouts and 107.2 innings pitched before he was placed on leave.

Roberts was asked if he thinks Bauer will return by the end of this week after the Dodgers lost to the Miami Marlins on Monday in Miami.

"I don't see it happening," Roberts told reporters.

Garrett Cleavinger started in place of Bauer in the Dodgers' 5-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday in Washington, D.C. He allowed one hit in one inning pitched.

Bauer's slot in the starting rotation is scheduled to return Saturday when the Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium.

"We are planning to move forward right now as we have been in recent days," Roberts told reporters.

Players continue to be paid, but can't play under the terms of MLB's administrative leave policy. MLB has extended administrative leave for players in the past, but needs players' union approval to do so.

The Dodgers (53-32) will face the Miami Marlins (36-47) at 7:10 p.m. EDT Tuesday in Miami.
