Tampa Bay Rays to acquire infielder Eric Sogard from Toronto Blue Jays

July 28 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to acquire veteran infielder Eric Sogard from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sogard, 33, is hitting .300 with a career-high 10 home runs and 30 RBIs in 73 games this season. ESPN and the New York Post reported the AL East rivals were making a trade.

The Blue Jays' return for Sogard was not immediately announced.

Sogard was scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup Sunday. Toronto is finishing a three-game home series with the Rays.

Sogard has hit .247 with 21 career home runs since debuting with the Oakland Athletics in 2010.

Tampa Bay entered play Sunday with a 59-48 record. The Rays are 1/2 a game behind the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card standings.

Toronto is 40-66 this year.
