Mat Latos invited to Toronto Blue Jays spring training

Feb. 16 (UPI) -- An eighth different Major League Baseball jersey will be hanging in Mat Latos' closet after he agreed to a deal Thursday.

Latos agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. The pact includes an invitation to spring training, according to reports.

The 29-year-old right-hander went 7-3 with a 4.89 ERA in 17 appearances last season for the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals. He was released last season after struggling with the White Sox. Latos also battled hamstring issues last season.

Latos made his MLB debut in 2009 for the San Diego Padres. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2011 before being traded again in 2014 to the Miami Marlins. Latos then moved from the Marlins to the Los Angeles Dodgers, before being released in 2015. The Los Angeles Angels picked him up for a short stint before he hit free agency again. The White Sox signed Latos last February before releasing him on June 17. He signed on with the Nationals on June 29.

Latos made $3 million last season. He earned $9.4 million from the Marlins in 2015. He will likely compete for a bullpen role and provide depth in the Jays' rotation.
