Outfielder Ben Revere agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

Revere, who can earn an additional $2.25 million in performance bonuses, is expected to back up the right-handed hitting Cameron Maybin.

"Ben's skillset on both sides of the ball is a welcome addition and adds a dynamic component to our roster," Los Angeles general manager Billy Eppler said in a statement of the left-handed hitting Revere.

Acquired for reliever Drew Storen in January, Revere batted .217 with two homers and 24 RBIs in 103 games with the Washington Nationals last season. The Nationals did not tender a contract to Revere prior to the Dec. 2 deadline, making the 28-year-old a free agent.

Revere is batting .285 with six homers and 178 RBIs in 748 career contests while recording 190 steals in 237 attempts.
