June 7 (UPI) -- Greece's Maria Sakkari clinched a spot in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the expense of Sofia Kenin on Monday in Paris. Sakkari upset the American in straight sets in a match that lasted just 68 minutes.
Sakkari smashed four aces, 19 winners and committed just 15 unforced errors in the 6-1, 6-3 victory on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. Kenin, ranked No. 5 in the world, was the highest-ranked women's player remaining in the tournament.
The 2020 French Open finalist totaled nine double faults, 32 unforced and didn't score a single ace in the loss. Sakkari, ranked No. 18, faces defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland or Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
"I'm speechless," Sakkari told the Tennis Channel. "I love Paris. I'm having a great time and I don't want to leave anytime soon."
Earlier Monday, American Cori "Coco" Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight-sets win over Tunisia's Ons Jabeur and will battles Czech Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals. Krejcikova beat American Sloane Stephens in straight sets in her fourth-round match.
Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 men's player in the world, outlasted Italian Lorenzo Musetti in a five-set thriller Monday in Paris.
The Serbian dropped the first two sets 6-7, 6-7, but rebounded for 6-1 and 6-0 wins in the third and fourth sets, respectively. Djokovic led 4-0 in the fifth set when Musetti retired due to a lower-body injury.
The match lasted three hours, 27 minutes. Djokovic moves on to face Italian Matteo Berrettini in a quarterfinal Tuesday at Roland Garros. Berrettini advanced Monday due to a withdrawal from Switzerland's Roger Federer.
Argentine Diego Schwartzman also advanced out of the men's singles circuit after a win over Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
Fourth-round matches continue until 6 p.m. EDT Monday on the Tennis Channel and Peacock. The first round of quarterfinal matches airs from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday on the Tennis Channel.
