The Pittsburgh Steelers released quarterback Zach Mettenberger on Monday after drafting Joshua Dobbs in the fourth round over the weekend.

Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2014 out of LSU, has been cut by three NFL teams. He was claimed by Pittsburgh via waivers in August after he spent part of last offseason with the San Diego Chargers.

Mettenberger, 25, did not make an appearance for the Steelers while playing behind Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones.

Mettenberger started 10 games in 2014 and 2015 with the Titans, going 0-10 in those starts. In 14 games overall, he passed for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Dobbs was drafted by the Steelers out of Tennessee to be the team's developmental quarterback. He was an accomplished player in the SEC, passing for 2,946 yards with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a senior in 2016. He set the Tennessee record for career rushing yards by a quarterback with 2,160.
