Tampa Bay Buccaneers midseason report card: C minus

MIDSEASON REPORT CARD

--PASSING OFFENSE: C-minus -- Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has not progressed in his second season. He has 14 touchdowns, nine interceptions and two lost fumbles. His inaccuracy, especially on the deep ball, has prevented the Buccaneers from reeling off a winning streak. He began the year turning the ball over at an alarming rate. Not having WR Vincent Jackson is a loss.

--RUSHING OFFENSE: C -- Considering the Buccaneers have had seven different running backs on their roster at some point and haven't had Doug Martin in the lineup since Week 2, they've done OK. RB Jacquizz Rodgers stepped in after being cut by the Bears and had two straight 100-yard games.

--PASS DEFENSE: D -- The Tampa Bay secondary has been a mess. The pass rush is non-existent. Injuries on the defensive line have hurt the pass rush. As a result, opposing quarterbacks are having a field day with 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

--RUSH DEFENSE: C -- The Buccaneers have done a decent job against the run. Opponents are rushing for 4.2 yards per game. But the tackling of LBs Lavonte David and Kwon Alexander hasn't been up to their standards this season.

--SPECIAL TEAMS: C-minus -- P Bryan Anger has been terrific, hanging punts high and doing a great job killing the ball inside the 20. But K Roberto Aguayo is only 6 of 11 on field-goal attempts and has missed two extra points. The Bucs also have gotten nothing from their return game.

--COACHING: C-minus -- The Buccaneers were 3-3 with all three wins coming on the road despite a ton of injuries to the defensive line and at running back. Head coach Dirk Koetter lost one game to the Los Angeles Rams by mismanaging the clock. The defense hasn't jelled. But around .500 is what the talent this club says they are.

--OVERALL: C minus

Most Valuable Player: Wide receiver Mike Evans. The former seventh overall pick is off to his best start, with six touchdown receptions in his first six games. Even with No. 2 receiver Vincent Jackson on injured reserve, Evans has been dominant this season and is in better physical condition.

Most Disappointing Player: Kicker Roberto Aguayo. The Buccaneers traded up into the second round to take the Florida State kicker and he has been dreadful. He has connected on 6 of 11 field-goal attempts and missed another extra point on Sunday.

Most Surprising Rookie: Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves. He started playing nickel corner but quickly won over coaches and is now a starter outside at cornerback opposite Brent Grimes.
