Franchise-tagged safety Eric Berry is expected to end his holdout and report to the Kansas City Chiefs by Sunday.

Multiple reports indicated Berry would be with the team by Sunday but miss the all-important third preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Berry was not required to report to training camp and cannot be fined for missing time because he was designated a franchise player.

The 2015 Comeback Player of the Year can become a free agent at the end of this season.

Berry has a salary of $10.806 million for the 2016 season as the franchise player but was unhappy the team was unable to work out a long-term deal, while others - namely Vikings Pro Bowl safety Harrison Smith, who got a $51 million deal in Minnesota - were able to cash in with massive guarantees. The deadline for extending contracts for players on franchise tags passed July 15.

Head coach Andy Reid said this week Berry could still play in the Sept. 11 opener against the San Diego Chargers even if he's not on the field for preseason games.

Berry, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, was co-MVP of the team in 2015 in his first year back from a battle with lymphoma.
