FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Who said the daytime soap opera was dead?

The latest edition of "Florham Park 07932" took place Wednesday afternoon, when wide receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall flipped the script - or at least gave the impression of doing so - regarding who might have missed the first week of OTAs in a show of solidarity with estranged starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Marshall was believed to have missed the first week of "voluntary" workouts for personal reasons that had nothing to do with Fitzpatrick, the free agent who has been embroiled in a long and increasingly contentious standoff with the Jets. As for Decker, the New York Post reported May 25 he was staying away from the "voluntary" workouts in support of Fitzpatrick.

Decker and Marshall rejoined the Jets on Tuesday for the second week of OTAs - and promptly offered up different takes on their earlier absences.

"That's not the reason I wasn't here," Decker said. "I told coach where I was and what I was doing. I was with my family."

That was vague, but less mysterious - or passive-aggressive, depending on your point of view - than Marshall's "explanation" for his decision to work out at home in Florida.

"You guys know how I feel about Ryan," Marshall said. "I've said it over and over again, all offseason. There's a thin line between supporting your teammate and being detrimental to the team.

"At this point, it's time for all of us to move forward and try to figure out how we can win some games."

Might Fitzpatrick be ready to move forward now with the Jets? The New York Daily News reported late Wednesday night that Fitzpatrick would be willing to sign a one-year deal worth $12 million. Such a contract, theoretically at least, would allow Fitzpatrick to be paid at a rate more commensurate with the better quarterbacks in the league while giving him a chance to cash in on the free-agent market again next spring.

Or maybe not. ESPNNewYork.com responded to the news with a Tweet reading "The Jets will not sign Ryan Fitzpatrick for one year, $12 million. That is all. Carry on."

As they say on the soaps: Stay tuned.
