The New York Knicks are showing interest in former Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel.

The team contacted Vogel's agent but have not asked for a formal interview, the New York Post reported Friday. The Houston Rockets also reportedly have shown interest in Vogel.

Vogel was told Thursday that his contract would not be renewed after the Pacers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Toronto Raptors, making him available as a candidate for NBA openings.

According to the Post, Knicks general manager Steve Mills reached out to Vogel's representatives to gauge his interest, but team president Phil Jackson has yet to weigh in on Vogel. Jackson is away in Montana at his lake house.

Vogel told the Post "no comment" when asked about his interest in the job. He is the winningest coach in Pacers history with a 250-181 regular-season record and a 31-30 playoff mark in six seasons.

Jackson previously worked with Vogel, who was an advance scout for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2006.

Interim coach Kurt Rambis is still in the running for the Knicks' permanent job. Jackson also interviewed former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt and talked with Luke Walton, the Golden State assistant who was hired as head coach by the Los Angeles Lakers.
