OAKLAND, Calif. -- Warriors star Stephen Curry cut short a pregame warmup that was designed to test his injured right ankle Monday night and shortly thereafter was declared out for Game 2 of Golden State's first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets.

Shaun Livingston was set to start on Curry's place.

Curry turned his right ankle Sunday while pivoting late in the second quarter of Game 1, and he played less than three minutes in the second half before being benched for the remainder of Golden State's 104-78 win.

The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player was held out of Monday's morning shootaround in hopes he would be able to play later that night.

However, his pregame warmup lasted less than 15 minutes, after which he punched the basketball in disappointment and left the court without his trademark final shot from the tunnel runway leading to the locker room, two indications the workout was more painful than he had hoped it would be.

Within 20 minutes, the Warriors announced Curry would not play in Game 2.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Thursday night in Houston.

Curry had a game-high 24 points despite playing just 20 minutes in the series opener.
