San Francisco defensive tackle Ian Williams was in line for hefty five-year, $27.5 million free-agent deal contingent on him passing his physical.

EPSN reported on Monday that Williams indeed did not pass his physical and the club reworked the deal, which now could be worth up to $6 million.

Williams, whose status for the 49ers' 2016 opener is still in doubt after undergoing ankle surgery after the season, had a career-high 65 tackles and played in all 16 games last season.

The five-year deal would have made Williams among the top 15 paid defensive tackles.
