Chicago Bears promote Dowell Loggains to OC

The Chicago Bears promoted Dowell Loggains to offensive coordinator to replace Adam Gase, who was hired as the Miami Dolphins new head coach on Saturday.

Loggains served as Chicago's quarterbacks coach in 2015, and helped quarterback Jay Cutler post a career-high 92.3 passer rating along with a 64.4 completion percentage.

"Dowell played a critical role on our offense last year," Bears head coach John Fox said. "He's an excellent coach with experience as a play-caller and a broad knowledge of offensive football. He has earned the respect of our players because they know he can help them get better."

The Bears finished just 23rd in points scored, 21st in total yards and 23rd in passing yards in 2015, but it was important to Fox to maintain continuity in the unit and build on the system Gase installed last offseason.

"As I mentioned at the end of the season, our systems are in place. We will always look to evolve because the NFL is fluid and adapting is key to good coaching," Fox said. "Dowell will help us build on what we started as we head into the 2016 season."

Loggains was the quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2014, and was on the coaching staff of the Tennessee Titans from 2008-13, including serving as the offensive coordinator for the final five games of 2012 and the entire 2013 season.

A former quarterback for the University of Arkansas, he broke into the NFL as a scouting assistant with the Dallas Cowboys in 2005 before moving on to work as a coaching administrative assistant for two seasons in 2006. Loggains was named a quality control coach in 2008.
